Communications is a social sciences journal whose thematic issues are published twice-yearly. It was created in 1961 by Georges Friedmann, Roland Barthes, and Edgar Morin. After becoming a reference publication for media studies and semiotics in France, it quickly won an international readership. Since the 1980s, it has been widening its topics to anthropological and sociological research. Contributors include prominent international social theorists and scientists as well as young scholars.
